CHICAGO - Despite
a first-half goal by junior midfielder Casey Meehan (Frankfort,
Ill./Lincoln-Way East), the Saint Xavier University women's soccer team could
not slow down the hot start of No. 25 ranked Olivet Nazarene University (Ill.)
and ultimately fell, 3-1, Saturday afternoon in Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic
Conference (CCAC) action at Tiger Field in Bourbonnais, Ill. The Cougars (10-6-0 overall/6-2-0 CCAC) fell
behind 3-0 in the first 35 minutes of the game before Meehan scored her team's
lone goal off a free kick in the game's 42nd minute. SXU was limited to just two shots-on-goal in
the game, while ONU finished with 10 shots-on-goal.
The game's first
goal came in the 10th minute when senior forward Michelle Davis
scored on an unassisted breakaway. In
the 32nd minute, sophomore forward Jordan Wallek put the ball into
the upper right corner of the goal for the Tigers' second score off assists
from junior midfielder Janel Schmitt and senior defender Brittany Hengesh,
respectively. Sophomore midfielder Katie
Dirkse scored Olivet's final goal off an unassisted shot that deflected off
Cougar junior keeper Sarah Schrader (Metamora, Ill./Illinois Central
College/Metamora) and into the net.
Schrader finished the game with seven saves for SXU.
Saint Xavier (10-6-0
overall/6-2-0 CCAC) heads to Deerfield, Ill., on Wednesday, October 27, to
continue conference play against Trinity International University (Ill.). The game is scheduled for a 3 p.m. start.
