CHICAGO - After
dropping a pair of games to tough NCAA Division II competition last week, the
No. 18 ranked Saint Xavier University men's soccer team got back in the win
column with a 1-0 victory over Robert Morris University (Ill.) in Chicagoland
Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) action Wednesday night at Bruce R. Deaton
Memorial Field in Chicago. Freshman
keeper Kyle Held (Palatine, Ill./Palatine) had another brilliant performance in
goal for the Cougars logging six saves and notching his fifth shutout of the
season. Senior forward Ernad Dzananovic
(Loves Park, Ill./Harlem) netted the game-winning goal for SXU in the 39th
minute of play.
The
Cougars missed a golden opportunity to go ahead early when a penalty kick
attempt was blocked away by Eagles junior keeper Jose Cornejo in the 23rd
minute. However, a beautiful cross by
junior midfielder Samuel Sprauer (Chicago, Ill./Azusa Pacific University/Ohio
State University/Glenbard North) set up the go-ahead goal by Dzananovic and
proved to be all the offense SXU needed to claim the victory.
Saint
Xavier (9-4-1 overall/5-0-1 CCAC) heads to Bourbonnais, Ill., on Saturday,
October 23, for a big conference match-up against league-leading Olivet
Nazarene University (Ill.). The game is
scheduled for a 6 p.m. start.
