Joliet, Ill. - Behind a combined 28 kills and five total blocks (two solo, three assisted) from junior middle blocker Kim Scudder (Elmhurst, Ill./York Community), the Saint Xavier University women's volleyball team earned a pair of victories Saturday at the Big Guns Classic hosted by the University of St. Francis (Ill.) in Joliet, Ill. The Cougars (16-8 overall) opened the day with a win over William Penn University (Iowa) in three sets 27-25, 25-18 and 25-22. SXU then finished up with a hard-fought battle against Saint Ambrose University (Iowa) that went five sets 16-25, 25-23, 20-25, 25-22 and 15-4.

In Saturday's first match, Scudder led the offensive attack with 13 kills. Sophomore outside hitter Kayla Mullaney (Elmhurst, Ill./York Community) was tough as well finishing with seven kills and six digs for the Cougars. Defensively, SXU was led by sophomore libero Christine Bowe (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove South) with 12 digs, while junior setter Ashley August (LaGrange Park, Ill./Lyons Township) posted 33 assists. Scudder was impressive again in the second match recording 15 kills and three blocks (two solos, one assisted). Mullaney posted a double-double of 13 kills and 11 digs, while Bowe led the defensive front with 22 digs. August also tallied 37 assists toward the winning effort.

Saint Xavier (16-8 overall/5-3 CCAC) heads up to Milwaukee this evening to continue Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) play against Cardinal Stritch University (Wis.). The match is scheduled for a 7 p.m. start.
