Joliet, Ill. - In addition to moving up six
spots in the latest NAIA Men's Soccer Coaches' Top 25 Poll Tuesday, the No. 16
ranked Saint Xavier University men's soccer team also had junior forward Matt
Klancic (Aurora, Ill./Bowling Green State University/Waubonsie Valley) named
the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Men's Soccer Offensive Player
of the Week. Klancic was a scoring
juggernaut for the Cougars as the team won a pair of big conference games over
Cardinal Stritch University (Wis.) and Holy Cross College (Ind.), respectively.
In the week's first game against Cardinal Stritch, Klancic
tallied two assists as SXU rolled to a 7-2 road victory. On Saturday, Klancic was instrumental in all
three of Saint Xavier's scores posting two goals and an assist in a 3-0 home
shutout over the visiting Saints. He
leads the Cougars in scoring with 19 points and also tops the team in goals
scored (6) and assists (7).
Saint Xavier is in Florida this week for a pair of
non-conference games against Rollins College (Fla.) and Flagler College
(Fla.). The Cougars take on Rollins this
afternoon at 3:30 p.m. (central) and then complete the trip on Friday with a 6
p.m. game against Flagler.
