Somers, Wis. - Despite 10 kills and 11 digs by sophomore outside hitter Kayla Mullaney (Elmhurst, Ill./York Community), the Saint Xavier University women's volleyball team dropped its match with NCAA Division II University of Wisconsin-Park side (Wis.) Tuesday evening at DeSimone Gymnasium in Somers, Wis. The Cougars (14-8 overall) fell in three sets by scores of 21-25, 15-25 and 23-25. The Rangers were aggressive offensively, especially in the first two sets, posting a combined 33 kills and only 10 attack errors to open the match.
Junior setter Ashley August (LaGrange Park, Ill./Lyons Township) recorded 23 assists for SXU, while junior defensive specialist Erin Sebo (Downers Grove, Ill./St. Scholastica/Downers Grove North) led the defense with 14 digs. Junior middle blocker Kim Scudder (Elmhurst, Ill./York Community) also finished the night with 10 kills and had SXU‘s best attack percentage at .350. With the win, UW-Parkside improves to 13-6 on the year.
Saint Xavier (14-8 overall/5-3 CCAC) heads to Joliet, Ill., on Saturday, October 16, to take part in the University of St. Francis (Ill.) Big Guns Classic. The Cougars open Saturday with a 9 a.m. match against William Penn University (Iowa) and then finish up with a 1 p.m. match against Saint Ambrose University (Iowa).
