CHICAGO - Junior forward Matt Klancic (Aurora, Ill./Bowling Green State University/Waubonsie Valley) was key in all three Saint Xavier University goals of a 3-0 victory over Holy Cross College (Ind.) in Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) men's soccer action Saturday at Bruce R. Deaton Memorial Field in Chicago. Klancic scored SXU's first two goals and then assisted the game's final score to finish the day with five total points. The No. 22 ranked Cougars (8-2-1 overall) are riding an eight-game unbeaten streak having gone 7-0-1 during the stretch dating back to August 29.
All of the scoring took place within a five-minute span that started in the 17th minute. Klancic scored from 20 yards out off a corner kick by junior midfielder Adrian Guzman (Chicago, Ill./De La Salle) to put Saint Xavier ahead, 1-0. Just before the 21st minute of play, Klancic struck again with a goal from 15 yards out assisted by freshman keeper Kyle Held (Palatine, Ill./Palatine). Less than a minute later, junior defender Cody Culver (Roscoe, Ill./Harlem) provided some insurance with a third goal for the Cougars off an assist from Klancic. Held was impressive in goal again logging his fourth shutout of the year behind 11 saves.
