Palos Heights, Ill. - Junior middle blocker Kim Scudder (Elmhurst, Ill./York Community) and sophomore outside hitter Kelly Knudsen (Oak Lawn, Ill./Oak Lawn Community) each finished with nine kills, but the Saint Xavier University volleyball team could not get rolling offensively as a unit and dropped a Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) match to league-leading Trinity Christian College (Ill.) Friday night in Palos Heights, Ill. The Cougars (14-7 overall) lost the match in three straight sets by scores of 22-25, 12-25 and 17-25. With the loss, SXU falls to fifth place in the conference standings with a 5-3 mark, while TCC improves to 19-4 this season and 8-0 atop the CCAC. The Trolls are now riding an 11-match win streak.
Some of the other notable SXU performers from Friday's match were junior setter Jaclyn Major (Lockport, Ill./Lockport Township) and sophomore outside hitter Kayla Mullaney (Elmhurst, Ill./York Community). Major was the primary setter for the Cougars Friday and finished with 25 assists and six digs. Mullaney was solid both offensively and defensively posting six kills and team-best 10 digs. Knudsen also recorded nine digs for SXU to go along with her nine kills.
Saint Xavier (14-7 overall/5-3 CCAC) takes the rest of the weekend off and returns to action on Tuesday, October 12, with a road match against NCAA Division II University of Wisconsin-Parkside (Wis.). The match is scheduled for a 7 p.m. start.
