Milwaukee, Wis. - Two goals apiece by junior midfielder Adrian Guzman (Chicago, Ill./De La Salle) and senior midfielder Jeff Hiltrop (Rockford, Ill./Colorado-State Pueblo/Boylan Catholic) helped power the No. 22 ranked Saint Xavier University men's soccer team to a 7-2 victory over Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) foe Cardinal Stritch University (Wis.) Wednesday evening at Pat Jones Field in Milwaukee, Wis. The Cougars (7-2-1 overall) came out firing and took a 4-1 advantage into the halftime break. SXU finished Wednesday's game with 20 shots-on-goal compared to just four for the Wolves.
In the 15th minute of play, Saint Xavier scored two goals just 31 seconds apart with Guzman scoring the first off an assist from junior defender Cody Culver (Roscoe, Ill./Harlem) and the second score coming off the foot of junior midfielder Samuel Sprauer (Chicago, Ill./Azusa Pacific/Ohio State/Glenbard North) set up by a pass from junior midfielder Al Palar (Zabrze, Poland/Plainfield Central). In the 30th minute, CSU cut the lead in half with a goal by junior forward Ben Allen. However, the Cougars answered right back just two minutes later with two more quick scores, one from senior forward Ryan Clemens (Midlothian, Ill./Trinity Christian College/Moraine Valley CC/Lincoln-Way East) and the other by junior defender Dan Cross (Gravesend, England/Axton Chase). Guzman and Clemens recorded the assists on the pair of goals.
Just over 13 minutes into the second half, the Wolves struck again with a goal by sophomore forward Konrad Raclawski. Saint Xavier closed out the final minutes of play with three scores. Guzman notched the first one, his second of the night, in the 76th minute off an assist by junior forward Matt Klancic (Aurora, Ill./Bowling Green State University/Waubonsie Valley). Hiltrop tallied the final two goals, one on an unassisted play in the 78th minute and the second five minutes later on a pass from Klancic. Freshman keeper Kyle Held (Palatine, Ill./Palatine) got the start in goal playing the first 79 minutes and logging two saves, while freshman Jordan Hamrick (Lafayette, Ind./Lafayette Jefferson) closed out the final 11 minutes with no saves.
Saint Xavier (7-2-1 overall/3-0-1 CCAC) returns home to take on Holy Cross College (Ind.) in conference action on Saturday, October 9. The game is scheduled for a 1:30 p.m. start at Bruce R. Deaton Memorial Field in Chicago.
