Kelly Steinhaus (Lemont, Ill./Lemont) scored both goals in a 2-0 win for Saint
Xavier University over Cardinal Stritch University (Wis.) in Chicagoland
Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) women's soccer action Tuesday night in
Milwaukee, Wis. The Cougars (8-4-0 overall)
are riding a hot streak winning seven of their last eight games and in the
midst of a three-game win streak. In
fact, SXU has outscored its opposition 14-0 over the last three games. Junior Ashley Shugar (Lake Orion,
Mich./Western Illinois University/Lake Orion) booked another shutout, her fifth
of the season, in Tuesday's win finishing the night with three saves.
Saint Xavier on the scoreboard early netting the first goal in the 14th
minute off an assist from junior midfielder Joanna Janulis (Bolingbrook,
Ill./Benet Academy). Leading 1-0 at the
half, the Cougars added an insurance goal 17 minutes into the second half when
Steinhaus found the back of the net again.
The goal was set up by a pass from junior midfielder Casey Meehan (Frankfort,
Ill./Lincoln-Way East). SXU finished the
game with 28 total shots, including 12 on goal.
The Cougar defense was solid throughout holding the Wolves to just five
total shots with only three on goal.
Saint Xavier (8-4-0
overall/4-0 CCAC) takes its conference-leading record into a CCAC match-up with
Holy Cross College (Ind.) on Saturday, October 9. The home game is scheduled for an 11 a.m.
start at Bruce R. Deaton Memorial Field in Chicago. Saturday's game will also mark the third
annual "Cougs Kick Cancer" event to help raise money for breast cancer
