Joliet, Ill. - For the first time this
season, Saint Xavier University has swept the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic
Conference (CCAC) Players of the Week awards with junior midfielder Nancy Schueth (Lincoln, Neb./Saint Pius X) earning the offensive recognition and
junior goalkeeper Ashley Shugar (Lake Orion, Mich./Western Illinois
University/Lake Orion) claiming the defensive honor. Both players were instrumental in two big
conference wins for the Cougars last week, an 8-0 win over Calumet College of
St. Joseph (Ind.) and a 4-0 victory over Judson University (Ill.).
Receiving her first CCAC Offensive Player of the Week award
in 2010, Schueth had three goals and three assists over two games. In the 8-0 win over Calumet, she had a hand in
five of the goals with three assists and a pair of goals. Picking up her third goal of the week, Schueth
netted the first score in SXU's 4-0 win over Judson. Schueth currently leads the Cougars in every
scoring category with eight goals, four assists and 20 total points.
Shugar earned her second CCAC Defensive Player of the Week
award of the season with a shutout on the week.
She played all 90 minutes against Judson University and finished with 11
saves. She did not play in the win over
Calumet College. It was Shugar's fourth
shutout of the year. She now has a
team-best 59 saves with a 1.18 goals-against average (GAA).
Saint Xavier is currently 7-4 overall and 3-0 in the CCAC. The Cougars have won six of their last seven
matches and riding a two-game win streak.
