Joliet, Ill. - Sophomore outside hitter Kayla Mullaney (Elmhurst, Ill./York Community) posted 11 kills and 12 digs, but it was not enough to lift the Saint Xavier University women's volleyball team over Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) rival University of St. Francis (Ill.) Friday night in Joliet, Ill. The Cougars (13-6 overall/4-2 CCAC) dropped the match in three straight sets by scores of 17-25, 23-25 and 15-25. The Saints came out on fire hitting at a .359 clip (17 kills, three errors) in the first set of the night.
Junior setter Jaclyn Major (Lockport, Ill./Lockport Township) recorded 17 assists for SXU, while sophomore libero Christine Bowe (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove South) led the defensive effort with 15 digs. Senior Danielle Malloy (Tinley Park, Ill./Tinley Park) finished the night with four total blocks, including two solos. With the win, USF improves to 16-5 overall and 5-1 in the conference standings.
Saint Xavier (13-6 overall/4-2 CCAC) continues conference play on Tuesday, October 5, with a home match against Calumet College of St. Joseph (Ind.). The match is scheduled for a 7 p.m. start at the Shannon Center in Chicago.
