CHICAGO - Goals by junior midfielder Nancy Schueth
(Lincoln, Neb./Saint Pius X) and senior forward Kelly Steinhaus (Lemont,
Ill./Lemont) in the game's first 20 minutes provided all the momentum Saint
Xavier University needed to pick up a 4-0 win over Judson University (Ill.) in
Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) women's soccer action Friday
night at Bruce R. Deaton Memorial Field in Chicago. In addition, senior keeper Ashley Shugar
(Lake Orion, Mich./Western Illinois University/Lake Orion) posted her fourth
shutout of the season behind 11 saves to help SXU stay undefeated in conference
play (3-0) and improve to 7-4-0 on the year.
Saint Xavier has now won six of its last seven games.
Schueth put the
Cougars ahead, 1-0, in the ninth minute scoring from 10 yards out on a nice
cross from junior midfielder Lauren LaRoy (Orland Park, Ill./Marist). Steinhaus found the back of the net nine
minutes later off a break-away set up by junior defender Lauren Ciszewski
(Alsip, Ill./Saint Ambrose University/Marist).
With four minutes to play before halftime, Saint Xavier got its third
score off an own goal by Judson after one of the Eagles sent the ball into the
net following a corner kick attempt by SXU.
Sophomore forward Elysha Peele (Tinley Park, Ill./Andrew) scored an
unassisted goal shortly after halftime to put the Cougars ahead, 4-0, and wrap
up the game's scoring. Judson held the
advantage on both total shots (19-12) and shots-on-goal (11-9) in Friday's game.
Saint Xavier (7-4-0
overall/3-0 CCAC) heads to Milwaukee, Wis., on Tuesday, October 5, to continue
conference play against Cardinal Stritch University (Wis.). The game is scheduled for a 7 p.m. start.
