CHICAGO - Despite holding a 24-12 advantage on
shots, the Saint Xavier University men's soccer team could not punch one into
the goal and tied visiting Calumet College of St. Joseph (Ind.), 0-0, after two
overtime periods in Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) action
Tuesday night at Bruce R. Deaton Memorial Field in Chicago. Junior midfielder Adrian Guzman (Chicago,
Ill./De La Salle) finished the game with five of the Cougars' 11 shots-on-goal
on the night, while freshman keeper Kyle Held (Palatine, Ill./Palatine) had
another impressive outing in front of the net posting seven saves. With the tie, SXU now sits at 5-2-1 overall
this season.
SXU had plenty of
chances, including 16 shots in the second period alone. The Cougars had 11 corner kicks in the game
to only five for the Crimson Wave.
Senior midfielder Ben Johnson (Woodridge, Ill./Western Illinois
University/Naperville North) had two shots-on-goal for SXU as well Tuesday
night.
Saint Xavier (5-2-1
overall/1-0-1 CCAC) continues its Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference
(CCAC) schedule on Saturday, October 2, with a big home game against No. 16
ranked Judson University (Ill.). The
game is slated for a 1:30 p.m. start at Bruce R. Deaton Memorial Field.
