Hammond, Ind. - Behind the hot serving hand of junior defensive specialist Erin Sebo (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove North), the Saint Xavier University volleyball team picked up a Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) road victory over Purdue University-Calumet (Ind.) Friday night in Hammond, Ind. Sebo finished with a match-best eight aces as the Cougars took the match in four sets 25-8, 25-8, 23-25 and 25-10. Sophomore middle blocker Colleen O'Hara (Lemont, Ill./University of Iowa/Lemont) led SXU offensively with 11 kills in the match.
Senior outside hitter Danielle Malloy (Tinley Park, Ill./Tinley Park) and junior middle blocker Kim Scudder (Elmhurst, Ill./York Community) each tallied 10 kills toward the winning effort, while junior setter Ashley August (LaGrange Park, Ill./Lyons Township) posted 41 set assists. Sophomore libero Christine Bowe (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove South) was SXU's defensive leader Friday finishing the match with 17 digs. Malloy and O'Hara each finished with three total blocks (one solo, two assists) in the road victory. As a team, the Cougars had 23 service aces.
Saint Xavier (12-5 overall/3-1 CCAC) takes the rest of the weekend off before returning to action on Tuesday, September 28, with a conference match against Judson University (Ill.). The home match is scheduled for a 7 p.m. start at the Shannon Center in Chicago.
