CHICAGO - Behind team-bests of 14 kills and three service aces by junior middle blocker Kim Scudder (Elmhurst, Ill./York Community), the Saint Xavier University women's volleyball team improved its Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) mark to 2-1 with a victory over visiting Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT) Tuesday night at the Shannon Center in Chicago. The Cougars (11-5 overall) won the first two sets by scores of 28-26 and 25-19 before dropping the third set, 20-25. However, SXU used 13 kills in the fourth set to win, 25-16, and claim the match.

Sophomore outside hitter Kayla Mullaney (Elmhurst, Ill./York Community) also played well for the Cougars Tuesday posting 10 kills, three service aces and 14 digs. Junior setter Ashley August (LaGrange Park, Ill./Lyons Township) led SXU with 23 set assists, while sophomore libero Christine Bowe (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove South) led the defensive effort with 17 digs. Illinois Tech falls to 8-6 overall with the loss and 2-2 in the conference standings.

Saint Xavier (11-5 overall/2-1 CCAC) heads to Hammond, Ind., on Friday, September 24, to take on CCAC foe Purdue University-Calumet (Ind.). The match is scheduled for a 7 p.m. start.
