CHICAGO - Behind goals from Kelly Steinhaus (Lemont, Ill./Lemont) and Joanna Janulis (Bolingbrook, Ill./Benet Academy), the Saint Xavier University women's soccer team was able to defeat Madonna University (Mich.), 2-0, Saturday afternoon at Bruce R. Deaton Memorial Field in Chicago. SXU out-shot MU, 19-8, including eight shots-on-goal. Junior goalkeeper Sarah Schrader (Metamora, Ill./Illinois Central College/Metamora) recorded her first win and shutout of the year behind five saves.

Steinhaus' goal came in the 39th minute off of a deflection from a free kick by sophomore Elysha Peele (Tinley Park, Ill./Andrew) to open the scoring. The Cougars would take their 1-0 lead into the half. Janulis would add an insurance goal in the 74th minute off a beautiful pass from freshman Anita Balciunas (Brookfield, Ill./Riverside-Brookfield) that caught her in stride right in front of the goal.

Saint Xavier (4-3-0 overall) heads to Joliet, Ill., to open its Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) schedule on Wednesday, September 22. The game against University of St. Francis (Ill.) is scheduled to start at 7 p.m.
