LaPorte County, Ind. - Sophomore outside hitter Kayla Mullaney
(Elmhurst, Ill./York Community) posted 13 kills, 21 digs and three service aces
to help lead the Saint Xavier University volleyball team to its first
Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) victory (1-1) of the season
Tuesday night against Purdue University-North Central (Ind.) in LaPorte,
Ind. The Cougars (8-3 overall) took the
match in four sets by scores of 25-23, 25-13, 20-25 and 25-14 and have now won
seven of their last eight matches with the only loss coming against No. 19
ranked Olivet Nazarene University (Ill.) in five sets.
blocker Kim Scudder (Elmhurst, Ill./York Community) also played well for SXU
finishing the night with 12 kills and three total blocks (two solos). Senior middle blocker Danielle Malloy (Tinley
Park, Ill./Tinley Park) tallied six kills and team-best three solo blocks on
the evening, while sophomore libero Christine Bowe (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers
Grove South) was also tough defensively recording a team-high 26 digs. Junior setter Ashley August (LaGrange Park,
Ill./Lyons Township) led the offensive attack by posting 42 assists to go along
with her 11 digs. As a team, SXU totaled
50 kills, seven solo blocks and eight service aces toward the winning effort.
Xavier (8-3 overall/1-1 CCAC) heads to Marion, Ind., to take part in the
two-day Best Western Wildcat Classic hosted by Indiana Wesleyan
University. The event begins on Friday,
September 17, with the Cougars playing Bethel University (Ind.) at 1 p.m. (central).
