Findlay, Ohio - Saint Xavier University senior wide receiver Mike Maher (Plainfield, Ill./Providence Catholic) was named the Mid-States Football Association (MSFA) Mideast League Special Teams Player of the Week Monday when the league office released the second installment of the weekly honors for the 2010 season. Maher set the tone for SXU in a big 62-6 home victory over Trinity International University (Ill.) Saturday evening by returning the game's opening kickoff 77 yards for a touchdown. It was his second kickoff return for a touchdown of the season, which ties a school record, after taking one back 85 yards in a 52-21 win over University of St. Francis (Ill.) the previous week.

Maher did not just excel on special teams in Saturday's big win. He also caught four balls for 82 yards and a score and his fourth catch of the night made him both Saint Xavier's and the MSFA's all-time career receptions leader with 258. The previous mark was held by former Cougar standout Bill McKeon, who finished his four-year SXU career in 2009 with 257 career receptions. Maher now has team-bests of 25 catches for 408 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns (two on kickoff returns) over three games this season.

SXU (3-0 overall/1-0 MSFA) begins a two-game road stretch this weekend heading to Bourbonnais, Ill., on Saturday, September 18, to take on Olivet Nazarene University (Ill.). The MSFA Mideast League match-up is scheduled for a 6 p.m. kickoff at Ward Field.
