Mich. - Junior midfielder
Lauren LaRoy (Orland Park, Ill./Marist) recorded two second-half goals to help
lift the Saint Xavier University women's soccer team to a 3-0 road win over
Aquinas College (Mich.) in non-conference action Saturday afternoon in Grand
Rapids, Mich. The victory ends a
three-game losing skid for the Cougars and also adds a second shutout to the
season total of junior keeper Ashley Shugar (Lake Orion, Mich./Western Illinois
University/Lake Orion), who finished the day with five saves. SXU was also dominant offensively taking 18
shots in the game with 12 of the attempts on goal.
The Cougars got
on the scoreboard early on when junior midfielder Joanna Janulis (Bolingbrook,
Ill./Benet Academy) scored off an assist from junior midfielder Nancy Schueth
(Lincoln, Neb./Saint Pius X) in the game's 15th minute. After taking a 1-0 lead into halftime, SXU
came out firing in the second half and scored again off the foot of LaRoy in
the 55th minute off a pass from sophomore defender Tammy Contorno
(Lemont, Ill./Lemont). LaRoy would score
unassisted for the game's final goal in the 84th minute.
