Goshen, Ind. - A pair of goals in the game's final 10 minutes lifted visiting Saint Xavier University to a 2-0 victory over Goshen College (Ind.) spoiling the host's home opener Wednesday night at the GC Soccer Complex in Goshen, Ind. Junior midfielder Al Palar (Zabrze, Poland/Plainfield Central) was credited with the game's first goal in the 80th minute and junior forward Matt Klancic (Aurora, Ill./Bowling Green State University/Waubonsie Valley) provided some insurance just four minutes later to secure the big road win. The Cougars improve to 3-2 with the victory, while Goshen falls to 0-4 on the year.
Freshman keeper Kyle Held (Palatine, Ill./Palatine), who was named Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week Tuesday, had another impressive outing in goal stopping all eight of Goshen's shots-on-goal to post his second shutout of the season. Junior midfielder Samuel Sprauer (Chicago, Ill./Ohio State University/Azusa Pacific University/Glenbard North) was tough offensively for the Cougars finishing with three shots-on-goal, while junior midfielder Adrian Guzman (Chicago, Ill./De La Salle) recorded two shots-on-goal in Wednesday's win. Both teams finished with 16 shots apiece in the game.
Saint Xavier (3-2-0 overall) opens its CCAC slate on Friday, September 17, against rival University of St. Francis (Ill.). The road game is scheduled for a 7 p.m. start in Joliet, Ill.
