Joliet, Ill. -Helping Saint Xavier University to a perfect
4-0 record on the week at the SXU/Illinois Tech Crossover Volleyball
Tournament, sophomore outside hitter Kayla Mullaney (Elmhurst, Ill./York
Community) has been named the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC)
Volleyball Player of the Week following the league office's announcement of the
honor Tuesday. Mullaney averaged 3.5
kills and 2.86 digs per game and had double-digit totals in kills in three of
her four matches played. She also
recorded a double-double in a rally victory against Evangel University (Mo.)
with 18 kills and 13 digs.
Mullaney also had 11 digs in a victory over Kansas Wesleyan
University (Kan.). Her best match came
against Evangel in the come-from-behind win after being down two games to
none. SXU took three of the four weekend
tournament matches in three sets. They
started off the tournament with a 3-0 win (25-14, 25-20, 25-20) over St.
Catherine College (Ky.) followed by another three-game sweep over Grace College
(25-11, 25-20, 25-20). On Saturday, the
Cougars held off Evangel in five sets (19-25, 19-25, 25-22, 25-20, 17-15) by
winning the final three games. Finishing
off the tourney, they had a 3-0 win against Kansas Wesleyan (20-25, 23-25,
16-25).
Saint Xavier (7-2 overall) opens its CCAC slate this
evening with a tough home match-up against No. 12 Olivet Nazarene University
(Ill.). The match is scheduled for a 7
p.m. start at the Shannon Center in Chicago.
