Findlay, Ohio - Saint Xavier University junior defensive tackle Ben Touzinsky (Temecula, Calif./Great Oak) and junior placekicker Tom Lynch (Frankfort, Ill./Southern Illinois University/Joliet JC/Lincoln-Way East) were named the Mid-States Football Association (MSFA) Mideast League Defensive and Special Teams Players of the Week, respectively, Tuesday in the first installment of the weekly honors for the 2010 season. Since this was the first time the honors have been awarded this year, any nominations from games played from two weeks ago were also carried over with last week's nominees.

Touzinsky was instrumental in SXU's 49-32 season-opening win against Bethel University (Tenn.) finishing with three total tackles, including a tackle-for-a-loss of six yards and a half sack for five yards. His key interception just inside the SXU 10-yard line early in the fourth quarter stifled a potential Bethel touchdown drive that would have pulled the Wildcats to within at least three points. The Cougars capitalized on the big turnover driving down the field to score a touchdown that gave them a 42-26 lead. Lynch was a perfect 7-for-7 on extra-point attempts and also booted a career-best 47-yard field goal in the third quarter to help lead Saint Xavier to a 52-21 win over former Midwest League rival University of St. Francis (Ill.) last Saturday night.

SXU (2-0 overall) continues its home stand on Saturday, September 11, with its MSFA opener against Trinity International University (Ill.). The game is scheduled for a 6 p.m. start at Bruce R. Deaton Memorial Field in Chicago.
