Palos Hills, Ill. - Junior Rachael Dean (Lindenhurst, Ill./Judson University/Lakes) had an impressive start to her Saint Xavier University cross country career by pacing the Cougars to a first-place team finish at the University of Illinois-Chicago (UIC) Opener at the Horsetail Slough Course in Palos Hills, Ill. Dean finished the two-mile race with a second-place overall finish in an official time of 11:15. Other top finishers for the Cougars included freshman Jordan Wallace (Frankfort, Ill./Lincoln-Way North) and junior Jackie Ott (Island Lake, Ill./Marian Central Catholic), who both finished among the top five individually.
Wallace finished in third place overall with an official time of 11:52, while Ott was next for the Cougars in fifth place at 12:07. Also making up the team score for SXU were senior Jade Braden
(Rocky River, Ohio/Rocky River) in ninth place with a 12:25 clocking and junior Kelly Malone
(Oak Lawn, Ill./Mother McAuley) was No. 20 across the finish line with a time of 12:45. The meet was scored as a dual meet with the Cougars defeating all of the remaining four teams participating.
Saint Xavier continues its season next weekend with the Midwest Classic hosted by Olivet Nazarene University. The women's race kicks off at 5 p.m. on Friday, September 10, at the Aspen Ridge Golf Course in Bourbonnais, Ill.
