Ashley Shugar (Lake Orion, Mich./Western Illinois University/Lake Orion) was named the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week late Wednesday for her efforts in helping lead the Cougars to a 1-1 record last week. SXU traveled to Des Moines, Iowa, this past weekend and took part in the Grand View/Graceland Invite defeating Grand View, 2-0, before falling to No. 7 Graceland, 2-1.
Shugar recorded 15 saves and a 1.00 goals against average (GAA) on the week. Despite dropping the decision to No. 7 Graceland, Shugar faced 15 shots-on-goal and stopped 13 of them. In the season opening win over Grand View, she provided a shutout and two saves.
Saint Xavier (1-1-0 overall) co-hosts the Saint Xavier/Trinity Christian Invite this weekend in Chicago. The Cougars will take on Lindenwood University (Mo.) at 2 p.m. on Saturday, September 4, at Bruce R. Deaton Memorial Field.
