Grand Island, Neb. -
Saint Xavier University senior wide receiver Mike Maher (Plainfield,
Ill./Providence Catholic) was named the Victory
Sports Network NAIA Offensive Player of the Week late Tuesday for the
opening week of the 2010 college football season. In a 49-32 road win over Bethel University
(Tenn.), Maher posted 12 catches for 214 yards and four touchdowns for the No.
4 ranked Cougars. His four receiving
touchdowns tied a school record originally set by SXU Hall of Famer Ed Bryant
back in 1998.
The Victory Sports Network (VSN) was founded July 5, 2002,
by Jason Dannelly to become a national promoter of NAIA Athletics. In the past years, Dannelly has built very
strong relationships with the NAIA member institutions and their coaches. He has published magazines dedicated solely to
NAIA Athletics, founded three sports websites and produces weekly features on
latest news around the NAIA. At VSN, the
mission is to give fans, coaches and players of small college athletics a place
to find out the latest information on the NAIA.
Saint Xavier (1-0 overall) will host former Mid-States
Football Association (MSFA) Midwest League rival University of St. Francis
(Ill.) for its home opener on Thursday, September 2. The game is scheduled for a 7 p.m. kickoff at
Bruce R. Deaton Memorial Field in Chicago.
