Des Moines, Iowa - Junior midfielder Nancy Schueth (Lincoln, Neb./Saint Pius X) notched two goals Friday night to lead the Saint Xavier University women's soccer team to a 2-0 season-opening win over host Grand View University (Iowa) as part of the Grand View/Graceland Invitational this weekend in Des Moines, Iowa. Junior Ashley Shugar (Lake Orion, Mich./Western Illinois/Lake Orion) logged the shutout in goal playing all 90 minutes and posting two saves. Offensively, the Cougars put pressure on the Vikings throughout recording 16 shots to their seven, including an 11-2 advantage in shots-on-goal.

Schueth scored the game's first goal in the 37th minute off an assist from senior forward Kelly Steinhaus (Lemont, Ill./Lemont). After leading 1-0 at the halftime break, Schueth broke free for an unassisted goal in the game's 62nd minute to give her team a 2-0 cushion. SXU also held an 8-2 advantage on corner kicks in Friday's opener.

Saint Xavier (1-0-0 overall) wraps up play at the Invitational on Saturday, August 28. The Cougars take on Graceland University (Iowa) at 5:30 p.m. in Des Moines.
