CHICAGO - Saint Xavier University junior catcher Jim Pipolo (Orland Park, Ill./Sandburg) will join new SXU president Christine M. Wiseman, J.D. on the mound at U.S. Cellular Field to throw out the ceremonial first pitch when the Chicago White Sox host the Kansas City Royals at 7:10 p.m. on Friday, July 9. Saint Xavier will sponsor "Fireworks Night" following the game and also host an alumni gathering on the patio deck that evening at the ballpark. For Pipolo, being selected to throw the first pitch is a dream come true.

"This is an extra special honor for me personally, because I get to represent my school and I'm a huge Sox fan," said Pipolo. "I have followed Major League Baseball my whole life, so it is really exciting to know that I will get the opportunity to throw out the first pitch at U.S. Cellular Field."

Pipolo recently completed another successful season with the Cougar baseball team helping lead the team to a 37-16-1 record and a second place finish in the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC). He finished third on the team in batting with a .378 average (51-for-135) and posted 10 doubles, eight home runs and 54 RBI. Pipolo was also a first team selection on the 2010 All-CCAC Baseball Team.
