Joliet, Ill. - For the second straight year, senior pitcher Jalyn Shearer
(Beecher, Ill./Beecher) was named the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Softball Pitcher of the Year as Saint Xavier University had four of its players named to the 2010 All-CCAC Softball Team when it was announced Monday by the league office in Joliet, Ill. In addition to Shearer, junior first baseman Courtney Murphy
(Oak Forest, Ill./Oak Forest) and junior centerfielder Megan Paradzinski
(Munster, Ind./Munster) each earned first team honors for the third straight year, while senior outfielder Rebekah Ruettiger
(St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles East) garnered honorable mention recognition. According to conference records, Shearer is the first pitcher to repeat as the CCAC Softball Pitcher of the Year over at least the past decade.
Shearer put an exclamation point on her stellar collegiate career with a big senior season. She finished the 2010 campaign with an overall record of 17-5 and a team-best 1.49 ERA. Shearer also led the Cougars in strikeouts (103), innings pitched (150.0) and shutouts (8). Murphy batted .308 (37-for-120) with seven doubles, three home runs and 28 RBI. She was also impressive on the defensive side as well leading SXU with 302 putouts and just five errors for a .984 fielding percentage. Paradzinski started 47 games in centerfield and hit a team-high .382 (63-for-165) with 29 runs scored and 24 RBI. She committed no errors in the outfield and also led SXU with 15 stolen bases. Ruettiger finished off her playing career in a big way hitting .286 (38-for-133) with team-bests of 14 doubles and 29 RBI.
Saint Xavier ended its season on Saturday, May 8, in the championship game of the 2010 CCAC Softball Tournament. The Cougars finished their 2010 season with a 32-18 overall record and claimed second overall in the final CCAC regular season standings with a 15-3 mark.
