Joliet, Ill. - Junior right-hander Ken Hurta
(Midlothian, Ill./Bremen) was named the 2010 Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Co-Pitcher of the Year as the Saint Xavier University baseball team landed six of its players on the 2010 All-CCAC Baseball Team when the honors were released by the league office Monday. (Crest Hill, Ill./Joliet Catholic) and sophomore catcher Jim Pipolo
(Orland Park, Ill./Sandburg) joined Hurta as first team selections, while senior outfielder Zach Clements
(Berwyn, Ill./Morton) earned a spot on the honorable mention team. In addition, Tezak, Testin and senior shortstop John O'Brien (Lake Zurich, Ill./Lake Zurich) were also named to the 2010 CCAC Rawlings Gold Glove Team.
Hurta finished the 2010 campaign with a 12-1 overall record and team-bests for innings pitched (85.2), starts (12) and ERA (3.78). Tezak had a huge year as well hitting .397 with team-highs of 75 hits, 13 home runs and 83 RBI. Testin led the Cougars in runs scored (60) and hit .359 (74-for-206) with 11 doubles, seven triples and five homers. In the designated hitter role this spring, Siefert was a force offensively hitting .377 (55-for-146) with 12 doubles and 39 RBI. Pipolo had a big sophomore year for SXU batting .378 (51-for-135) with 10 doubles and eight home runs and was tough defensively as well with a .972 fielding percentage behind the plate. Clements held the team's best batting average (.439) playing in 40 of SXU's 54 games.
Saint Xavier ended its season last Thursday in the championship game of the 2010 CCAC Baseball Tournament in Chicago with a 10-4 loss to Robert Morris University (Ill.). The Cougars finished with an overall record of 37-16-1 and claimed second place in the final conference regular season standings with a 23-7 mark.
