Bourbonnais, Ill. - Senior right fielder Rebekah Ruettiger (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles East) finished the day with two hits, a run scored and a RBI, but No. 2 seeded Saint Xavier University could not manufacture enough offense to keep pace with No. 1 seed and No. 19 ranked Olivet Nazarene University (Ill.) Saturday dropping two games for the championship of the 2010 Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Softball Tournament in Bourbonnais, Ill. Posting just three hits in the first game, the Cougars (32-18 overall) fell by a score of 9-1 and then the Tigers used a big first-inning to record a 9-2 win in game two. ONU earns the CCAC's automatic bid for the 2010 NAIA Softball Championships, which begin on May 20, by winning the tournament championship. Following the games, SXU had five players named to the 2010 CCAC All-Tournament Team, including Ruettiger, senior pitcher Jalyn Shearer (Beecher, Ill./Beecher), junior centerfielder Megan Paradzinski (Munster, Ind./Munster), junior first baseman Courtney Murphy (Oak Forest, Ill./Oak Forest) and junior catcher Amy Kennedy (Pontiac, Ill./Pontiac).
The Cougars had difficulty most of both games generating the timely hit leaving a combined 16 runners stranded on the base paths. Ruettiger provided the only offensive highlight for SXU in game one when she hit a RBI double to left field in the bottom of the second inning to make the score, 4-1. The big play for Saint Xavier in Saturday's second game came with two outs in the bottom of the fourth when junior second baseman Brittany Hannigan (Palos Hills, Ill./Stagg) belted a two-RBI single down the left field line. Shearer threw the entire second game for SXU finishing the year with a 17-5 overall mark and six strikeouts in her final outing. Saint Xavier ends its 2010 season with a 32-18 overall record. The Cougars finished second overall in the final CCAC regular season standings with a 15-3 mark.
