Joliet, Ill. - Saint Xavier University senior right-hander Jalyn Shearer (Beecher, Ill./Beecher) was named the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Softball Pitcher of the Week for the week ending May 2 when the conference office released the award Tuesday. Shearer went 2-0 over her three starts on the week, including an impressive 2-1 victory over No. 14 ranked Bethel College (Ind.). It is the fourth time during the 2010 season that she has earned the CCAC's weekly softball pitcher award.

Shearer racked up a stellar earned run average (ERA) of 0.74 over her three starts last week. She also posted two complete games and a shutout. In the win over nationally ranked Bethel, Shearer threw all seven innings and allowed just six hits, one unearned run and no walks with seven strikeouts. She finished the week with 16 strikeouts over 19.0 innings of work.

Saint Xavier (30-16 overall/15-3 CCAC) begins postseason play on Thursday, May 6, with a game against the winner of an earlier match-up between No. 3 seed Robert Morris University (Ill.) and No. 6 seed University of St. Francis (Ill.). SXU will take on the winner at 3 p.m. in Bourbonnais, Ill.
