Joliet, Ill. - Saint Xavier University freshman right-hander Mike Stirling (Thornton, Ill./Mount Carmel) was named the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Baseball Pitcher of the Week for the week ending May 2 when the conference office released the award Tuesday. Stirling had two complete-game performances last week in a pair of big conference wins over Trinity Christian College (Ill.) and Judson University (Ill.). It is just the second time this season that a SXU pitcher has received the weekly award with junior right-hander Ken Hurta (Midlothian, Ill./Bremen) claiming it back on April 13.
Stirling had two solid outings in his two starts last week throwing a combined 12.0 innings and allowing just six hits, four runs and six walks with five strikeouts. Opposing batters hit just .150 on him over the week. His second start of the week against Judson University was a 13-1 victory and capped a 14-game win streak by the Cougars. Saint Xavier (32-14-1 overall/20-7 CCAC) takes on CCAC foe Cardinal Stritch University (Wis.) on Wednesday, May 5, for its final regular season home game of the 2010 season. The Cougars then wrap up their regular season on Thursday, May 6, with a doubleheader against the Wolves at 2 p.m. in Milwaukee.
