CHICAGO - Behind huge offensive performances by seniors Ken Tezak (Joliet, Ill./Joliet Catholic) and Matt Mueller (Burbank, Ill./Reavis) on "Senior Day," the Saint Xavier University baseball team rolled to its 14th straight victory with a pair of big Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) wins over visiting Judson University (Ill.) Friday afternoon at Richard R. Ferrell Memorial Field in Chicago. The Cougars (32-12-1 overall/20-6 CCAC) won both games in just five innings with the score of the first game, 15-4, and the second one ending, 13-1. Tezak went 5-for-6 on the day with a double, a homer, four runs scored and six RBI; while Mueller was 3-for-6 with a homer, four runs scored and three RBI. Junior centerfielder Anthony Maziur (Oak Forest, Ill./Northern Illinois/Oak Forest) also had a huge day at the plate belting a team-best six hits with a homer, a triple, four runs scored and five RBI.
SXU cranked out 16 hits in Friday's first game led by four hits apiece by Maziur and Tezak. The Cougars scored in every inning, including six runs in the opening frame. Junior right-hander Ken Hurta (Midlothian, Ill./Bremen) got the win on the mound for Saint Xavier throwing all five innings and allowing 10 hits, four runs (all earned) and two walks with two strikeouts. He continues his impressive season by improving to 10-1 on the year. The second game was more of the same as the Cougars jumped out to an early 8-0 lead in the first inning. Maziur as well as seniors Tony Testin (Joliet, Ill./Joliet Catholic) and Zach Clements (Berwyn, Ill./Morton) each tallied two hits and two runs scored. Freshman right-hander Mike Stirling (Thornton, Ill./Mount Carmel) picked up the win (4-2) going all five innings for SXU and giving up just two hits, a run (earned) and three walks with two strikeouts. Saint Xavier (32-12-1 overall/20-6 CCAC) wraps up its three-game conference series with Judson University on Saturday, May 1, in Elgin, Ill. The nine-inning game is scheduled to start at 7 p.m.
