CHICAGO - Led by five RBI off three hits, including a three-run homer, by senior first baseman Ken Tezak (Joliet, Ill./Joliet Catholic), the Saint Xavier University baseball team pounded out 14 hits en route to a 13-3 victory over Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) foe Trinity Christian College (Ill.) in seven innings on a rainy Friday afternoon at Richard R. Ferrell Memorial Field in Chicago. The Cougars (27-12-1 overall/15-6 CCAC) trailed 3-1 after two innings, but posted 11 hits and 12 unanswered runs over the next four frames to end the game early. Senior left-hander Jayson Koehn (Beecher, Ill./Beecher) was tough on the mound for SXU earning his seventh victory of the year (7-2) and throwing the entire game Friday allowing just five hits, three runs (one earned) and a walk with eight strikeouts.

Senior shortstop John O'Brien (Lake Zurich, Ill./Lake Zurich) also had a nice day at the plate for Saint Xavier going 3-for-3 with a triple and four runs scored. Once the Cougar bats got hot, there was no shortage of offense coming from the SXU line-up. In fact, Saint Xavier batted through its order in both the third and fifth innings. Other top performers for the Cougars Friday included senior designated hitter Mark Siefert (Crest Hill, Ill./Joliet Catholic), who finished 2-for-2 with a double and three runs scored, and senior right fielder Zach Clements (Berwyn, Ill./Morton), who recorded two hits, two runs scored and a RBI. The Cougars have now won nine consecutive games, including victories against No. 18 Madonna University (Mich.) and NCAA Division II Lewis University (Ill.). SXU has outscored its opponents, 110-28, over the nine-game stretch. Saint Xavier (27-12-1 overall/15-6 CCAC) wraps up its three-game conference series with Trinity Christian College (Ill.) with a Saturday doubleheader in Palos Heights, Ill. The first game is scheduled for a 1 p.m. start.
