Joliet, Ill. - Saint Xavier University sophomore catcher Jim Pipolo (Orland Park, Ill./Sandburg) was named the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Baseball Player of the Week for the week ending April 18 when the conference office released the award late Tuesday. Pipolo's offense helped lead the Cougars to a 4-0 record last week with a big 13-5 win over CCAC foe Olivet Nazarene University (Ill.) and a three-game conference sweep of Purdue University-North Central (Ind.). It is the first time this season that a SXU player has received the weekly baseball player of the week award and just the second time that a Cougar has received either of the conference's weekly baseball awards (player and pitcher) with junior right-hander Ken Hurta (Midlothian, Ill./Bremen) earning CCAC Pitcher of the Week on April 13.
Pipolo hit .600 (9-for-15) with three doubles and a pair of home runs. He also posted seven runs scored and 10 RBI. Defensively, he committed no errors behind the plate, while posting 20 putouts and an assist. Against Olivet, Pipolo batted 3-for-4, including a double and a home run. He scored three runs and also knocked in one. Saint Xavier (26-12-1 overall/14-6 CCAC) hosts Trinity Christian College (Ill.) for a conference game on Friday, April 23, at Richard R. Ferrell Memorial Field in Chicago. The nine-inning game is scheduled for a 3:30 p.m. start.
