Springfield, Ill. - Finishing in 1:35:25, Saint Xavier University women's track member Katy Thomson
(Matteson, Ill./Marian Catholic) ran a "B" standard qualifying time at the Lincoln Memorial Half Marathon (13.1 miles) held in Springfield, Ill., on April 3. The qualifying time gives the junior a chance to compete in the marathon at the 2010 NAIA Outdoor Track and Field National Championships in Marion, Ind., on May 27-29. However, it was not her only great performance in the half marathon this year. On March 21, she posted a time of 1:36:33 in the half-marathon at the Delavan Panther Frostbite Classic in Delavan, Ill. Not only did she finish the race with an impressive time, she was also the top female finisher in the field.
"She's running better than ever," said SXU women's track coach Lisa Ebel
. "It was really exciting to see her win a road race at the Delavan Panther Frostbite Classic. I can't wait to see how well performs the next time she races on May 2."
Thomson is next slated to run at the Palos Bank Southwest Half Marathon. It starts at 7:30 a.m. in Palos Heights, Ill., on Sunday, May 2. The race begins at Palos Heights City Hall.
