Joliet, Ill. - Saint Xavier University junior right-hander Ken Hurta (Midlothian, Ill./Bremen) was named the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Baseball Pitcher of the Week for the week ending April 11 when the conference office released the award late Tuesday. Hurta won both his starts during the week, a six-inning performance with only one run given up on two hits against rival University of St. Francis (Ill.) and a six-inning outing against No. 18 ranked Madonna University (Mich.) giving up just two runs and six hits, while striking out five in the 16-2 win.
It is the first time this season that a SXU player has earned the conference's weekly baseball recognition in either category (pitcher or player). The Cougars currently sit at fourth place in the CCAC standings with an 8-6 record and are 20-12-1 overall on the season. Hurta is currently tied for first in the conference in wins (7) and tied for sixth in strikeouts with 35. Saint Xavier (20-12-1 overall/8-6 CCAC) heads to Bourbonnais, Ill., later today to wrap up its three-game CCAC series with Olivet Nazarene University (Ill.). The nine-inning game is scheduled for a 3:30 p.m. start.
