Dubuque, Iowa - Freshman outside hitter Aaron Porter (Woodridge, Ill./Downers Grove South) finished with five kills and 12 digs, but it was not enough as the Saint Xavier University men's volleyball team ended its first season in the opening round of the seven-team 2010 Mid-America Men's Volleyball Intercollegiate Conference (MAMVIC) East Division Tournament Friday afternoon at the Robert and Ruth Kehl Center in Dubuque, Iowa. The No. 6 seeded Cougars lost to No. 3 seed and host Clarke College (Iowa) in three straight sets (21-30, 19-30, 18-30) Friday and end their season with an overall record of 4-23. Following the match, SXU learned that Porter was named the 2010 MAMVIC East Division Freshman of the Year, while also earning first team recognition on the All-MAMVIC East Division Team.

The Cougars also got solid performances Friday out of freshman setter Jack Malone (Chicago, Ill./Brother Rice) with 20 assists and freshman middle blocker Joe Mooney (Palos Heights, Ill./Shepard) with five kills. Defensively, freshmen outside hitters Joe Zahalka (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove South) and Matt Yerkes (Palos Heights, Ill./Marist) were tough as well recording 13 and 12 digs, respectively.

Saint Xavier ends its debut season with an overall record of 4-23 and finished sixth overall in the MAMVIC East Division final standings with a 2-10 mark. The Cougars wrapped up their regular season slate on a high note defeating MAMVIC East Division foe Moody Bible Institute in three sets (30-6, 30-26, 30-19) at home on March 24.
