Joliet, Ill. - For the second straight week, Saint Xavier University senior right-hander Jalyn Shearer
(Beecher, Ill./Beecher) was named the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Softball Pitcher of the Week for the week ending March 28 when the conference office released the award Tuesday. Shearer was nearly unstoppable on the week throwing three complete games and recording three shutout wins in the process. She improved her season win-loss record to 8-1 overall, while leading the Cougars to a pair of conference wins over Purdue University-North Central (Ind.) and Calumet College (Ind.) as well as a non-conference victory over Cornerstone University (Mich.).
On the week, Shearer allowed just six hits and two walks in 19 innings of work over her three starts. She also recorded 17 strikeouts over the stretch. The Cougars currently sit atop the CCAC standings with a perfect 6-0 mark and are 17-5 overall on the season riding an 11-game win streak. Shearer currently leads the conference in shutouts (5) and opponent batting average (.189) and is second overall in complete games (8) and wins (8). Saint Xavier (17-5 overall/6-0 CCAC) continues its 2010 season on Thursday, April 1, with a home doubleheader against CCAC foe Trinity International University (Ill.). The first game is scheduled to start at 3 p.m. at SXU Softball Field in Chicago.
