Joliet, Ill. - Saint Xavier University senior right-hander Jalyn Shearer (Beecher, Ill./Beecher) was named the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Softball Pitcher of the Week for the week ending March 21 when the conference office released the award late Tuesday. Shearer had just one appearance over SXU's two games last week, but it was an impressive outing as she threw all seven innings and allowed just six hits, no earned runs and three walks with two strikeouts. She improved her season win-loss record to 5-1 overall, while leading the Cougars to a 3-1 victory over conference foe Judson University (Ill.) last Thursday.

It is the first time this season that a SXU player has earned the conference's weekly softball recognition in either category (pitcher or player). The Cougars currently sit atop the CCAC standings with a perfect 4-0 mark and are 13-5 overall on the season. Shearer currently ranks second in the conference in wins (5) and complete games (5) and is tied for first with two shutouts. Saint Xavier (13-5 overall/4-0 CCAC) returns to action on Friday, March 26, with a CCAC road doubleheader against Calumet College of St. Joseph (Ind.). The first game is scheduled for a 3 p.m. start.
