Men's Track & Field - Mon, Apr. 2, 2007
Elmhurst, Ill. - The "limping" Saint Xavier University men's track team went to Elmhurst College last Saturday to compete in the Elmhurst Invitational. The Cougars are currently "limping" due to the fact that two of their top runners, junior Steven Bugarin (Chicago, Ill./Washington) and sophomore Ronald Lavaire (Shelbyville, Ill./Shelbyville) are both nursing injuries and were unable to run in the outdoor meet.

Running with only two athletes, the Cougars raised some eyebrows by capping both a first and seventh place finish in the 800-meter run. Freshman John Neisler (Armington, Ill./Olympia) won the race with an impressive time of 1:58.09, while freshman Eli Hoffman (Mount Morris, Ill./Oregon) took seventh place with 2:03.5.

"Not having the whole team competing is very frustrating," said SXU men's track coach Ed McAllister. "However, John is already in mid-season form and Eli merely lacks a bit of speed-work. I think once we get everyone back and healthy, we will have a lot of success."

Next on the agenda for Saint Xavier is the Chicagoland Championships at North Central College (Ill.) on Saturday, April 7. The meet is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. in Naperville, Ill.
