Lebanon, Ill. - Senior first baseman Ken Tezak (Joliet, Ill./ Joliet Catholic) hit two home runs and drove in all five runs for No. 24 Saint Xavier University, but the Cougars lost a pair of games to McKendree University (Ill.) Sunday afternoon at Hypes Field in Lebanon, Ill. SXU (10-6-1 overall) dropped the first game of the twinbill, 8-3, and followed with a 7-2 loss to the Bearcats. Tezak finished a combined 3-for-6 at the plate on the day. The losses Sunday mean that the Cougars split the four-game weekend series with the Bearcats after sweeping a doubleheader Saturday.

On Sunday's first game of the doubleheader, Saint Xavier could not slow down the hot McKendree bats, starting the game with seven runs in the first three innings. In the fourth inning, the Cougars offense tried to get back on track. With one out, a single by senior second baseman Matt Mueller (Burbank, Ill./Reavis) followed by a walk by senior shortstop John O'Brien (Lake Zurich, Ill./Lake Zurich) set the stage for Tezak to hit his first home run of the day. Unfortunately, this would be the last run for Saint Xavier as they lost, 8-3, to the Bearcats.

McKendree would jump out to a quick 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning in Sunday's second game. This would not last long as Tezak hit his second home run of the day, scoring Mueller on a two-run shot to tie the game up, 2-2. The Cougars bats could only muster four more hits and would be shut out the rest of the game. The Bearcats plated five runs in the fifth and sixth frames and would come away with a 7-2 win to even the series against SXU at 2-2 on the weekend.

Saint Xavier (10-6-1 overall) starts Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) play, beginning with a contest at Trinity International University (Ill.) in Deerfield, Ill., on Friday, March 19. The nine-inning affair is scheduled for a 3 p.m. first pitch.
