Johnson City, Tenn. - The Saint Xavier University indoor men's track team had its distance-medley relay (DMR) team post a 16th place finish in the finals of the 2010 NAIA Indoor Track Championships Thursday night in Johnson City, Tenn. The relay team consisting of sophomore Brandon Hummer
(Willowbrook, Ill./Hinsdale South), seniors Chris Spencer
(Frankfort, Ill./Eastern Illinois/Lincoln-Way East) and Manny Gonzalez (Chicago, Ill./St. Laurence) and sophomore Matt Rychel
(Tinley Park, Ill./Andrew) completed the race in a time of 10:22.66 for the 4000-meter relay. Last season, the Cougars finished sixth in their qualifying heat and failed to advance to the finals competition. "I was pleased with our overall performance," stated SXU men's track coach Ed McAllister
. "We ran a strategically sound race. We were in our heat until the very last lap. I couldn't ask for more of our men." With its qualifiers at the national meet finished competing, Saint Xavier has wrapped up its indoor competition and will start training for their outdoor season. The Cougars will kick off the outdoor campaign on March 27.
