Women's Soccer - Mon, Mar. 1, 2010
CHICAGO - Anita Balciunas, a senior goalkeeper from Brookfield, Ill., recently signed a letter of intent to continue both her athletic and academic career at Saint Xavier University as a member of the Cougar women's soccer program. Balciunas is currently coached by Marisa Dobbertin at Riverside-Brookfield High School in Riverside, Ill. Dobbertin is a former SXU women's soccer player.

Balciunas is the daughter of Ruthann Balciunas of Brookfield, Ill. She is planning to pursue a degree in special education starting next fall at Saint Xavier University. SXU women's soccer coach Jeremy Ekeler is thrilled about the opportunity to strengthen his 2010 roster, especially with a key position like goalkeeper.

"Anita has been interested in our program since early in her junior year and I have yet to sign a player so proud to be a Cougar," said Ekeler. "Goalkeeper is always a position of need, and vocal, physical players are high on our list. In Anita, we covered all those bases. The first time you see her play, you notice that she is a young women, who owns the box with her daring play and runs the show with her strong presence. Working daily with such a technically sound goalkeeper as current Saint Xavier goalkeeper Ashley Shugar will only make Anita better."
