CHICAGO - Scoring a combined 61 of the team's 88 points, the six seniors on the No. 2 ranked Saint Xavier University women's basketball team stole the show on "Senior Night" in an 88-53 Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) victory over Robert Morris University (Ill.) Tuesday at the Shannon Center in Chicago. The game was the regular season finale for the Cougars and the senior class was honored in a brief ceremony prior to the start of the contest. SXU wraps up its regular season with a 27-1 overall record, the best regular-season finish in the team's 10-year history and also secured the conference regular-season crown for the sixth straight season. In addition, it was the program's 250th victory all under the direction of head coach Bob Hallberg.

Senior guard Kathlyn McClain (Oak Forest, Ill./Converse College/Marian Catholic) led the way with 17 points, seven rebounds and seven assists. Senior forward Erin Hannemann (Homer Glen, Ill./Providence Catholic) also had a big night posting 14 points and 12 rebounds, while senior guard Angie Bush (Valparaiso, Ind./Morgan Township) tallied 16 points on 7-for-12 shooting from the field. Senior forward Maureen Downs (Chicago, Ill./Loyola University/Marist) provided the Cougars with a big lift off the bench with 10 points and three rebounds, while senior forward Elizabeth Carney (Traverse City, Mich./St. Francis) chipped in four points and seven boards. Senior center Marquita Smith (Calumet City, Ill./Central Methodist/Lewis & Clark JC/Crane Tech) did not score in the game, but contributed six rebounds and two blocks toward the win.

The game was never in doubt as the Eagles' only lead of the game came in the first 30 seconds when they went ahead, 2-0. Saint Xavier surged to a 17-4 lead in the first six minutes of play and never looked back leading by as many as 32 points, 39-7, in first- half action. The Cougars were impressive in nearly every facet of the game recording 63 rebounds and racking up 27 assists. Junior guard Jerita Gordon led Robert Morris with a double-double effort of 17 points and 10 rebounds. Saint Xavier (27-1 overall/9-1 CCAC) will now take the No. 1 seed and home court advantage into next week's CCAC Tournament, which begins on Tuesday, March 2. The Cougars have also earned a first-round bye for the tournament with the top seed and will open with a semifinals match-up on Thursday, March 4, at the Shannon Center. Opponent and game time for the game has yet to be determined.
