Women's Basketball - Mon, Feb. 22, 2010
Joliet, Ill. - Saint Xavier University senior forward Erin Hannemann (Homer Glen, Ill./Providence Catholic) was named the CCAC Women's Basketball Player of the Week for the week ending February 21 after her impressive performance last week in No. 2 ranked SXU's two victories over No. 23 Lambuth University (Tenn.) and CCAC foe Indiana University-South Bend (IUSB). Hannemann averaged 21.5 points, 7.5 rebounds, 3.0 blocks and 2.0 steals over the two-game stretch and shot an impressive 80 percent (16-for-20) from the field. It was the fifth time this season that Hannemann has received the weekly recognition and the eighth time (out of 16 previous awards) it has been given to an SXU player.
Behind a double-double performance of 28 points and 10 rebounds by Hannemann, the Cougars picked up a big non-conference victory over Lambuth, 76-59. She was nearly unstoppable for SXU hitting 10 of her 12 shot attempts from the floor and also recording four blocks and four steals toward the winning effort. Saint Xavier then earned a 72-68 conference win over IUSB last Saturday with Hannemann chipping in 15 points and five boards. With the win, the Cougars clinched at least a share of the conference regular season title with one game left to play and a 1.5 game lead over University of St. Francis (Ill.). Saint Xavier (26-1 overall/8-1 CCAC) wraps up its CCAC and regular season slate tonight with a home game against Robert Morris University (Ill.). The game is scheduled for a 7 p.m. start at the Shannon Center and the squad's six seniors will be honored in a pre-game ceremony.
