CHICAGO - The Saint Xavier University football program continued to improve its 2010 roster with the recent additions of two incoming freshmen recruits from the Chicagoland area in offensive lineman Brian Studnicka and defensive back Troy Torrence. Studnicka played at Stagg High School in Palos Hills, Ill., under coach Brian Buglio, while Torrence played prep football at De La Salle Institute in Chicago, under coach Dan O'Keefe. Both recruits will begin their collegiate careers with the Cougars starting this August.
Studnicka is 6-2 and 250 pounds and lives in Palos Hills with his parents, Don and Brenda Studnicka. Torrence is 6-3 and weighs 205 pounds and hails from Chicago with his parents, Tom and Carolyn Torrence. SXU football coach Mike Feminis is excited about the size and athletic ability that both of these recruits bring to the program.
"We really like Brian, because he has good size and strength, plus he moves pretty well too," said Feminis. "He should be ready to compete for a starting position in our program in a year or two. Troy was a steal for us. He is a tall, rangy, athletic player, who is going to have a great future at SXU. Troy is a starter on De La Salle's basketball team, which is one of the best in the state. That should tell you we are getting a pretty darn good athlete."
