CHICAGO -The Saint Xavier University men's indoor track team continued to improve its results at the Chicagoland Indoor Track Championships in Chicago on February 13. The distance-medley relay (DMR) team, consisting of sophomore
Brandon Hummer (Willowbrook, Ill./Hinsdale South), seniors
Chris Spencer (Frankfort, Ill./Eastern Illinois/Lincoln-Way East) and
Emmanuel Gonzalez (Chicago, Ill./St. Laurence) and sophomore
Matt Rychel (Tinley Park, Ill./Andrew) improved upon their qualification time for the NAIA national meet on March 4 by a full second and a half. Their time of 10:22.11 was good enough for fourth at the meet and they followed up their DMR performance with a fourth place, 1600-meter relay time of 3:31.23.
The Cougars also did well in one of the individual events at the Chicagoland Championships. Sophomore
Andy Peters (Yellow Springs, Ohio/Yellow Springs) ran a impressive 3000-meter time of 9:17.32 to place 12th in the event.
"I'm rather satisfied," replied SXU men's track coach
Ed McAllister. "We only ran very specified events. We came to this meet to accomplish only a few things and I believe that we accomplished them. The relay team responded well and Peters ran a solid race."
The Saint Xavier University men's track team travels back to University of Chicago to finish its regular season indoor schedule at the Margaret Bradley Meet on Saturday, February 20. The meet is scheduled to begin at 12 p.m.
