Men's Basketball - Wed, Feb. 17, 2010
Joliet, Ill. - Saint Xavier University junior guard Stan Mayfield (Snellville, Ga./McKendree University/Shiloh) was named the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Men's Basketball Player of the Week for the week ending on February 14 when the awards were released by the conference office late Tuesday. The Cougars claimed a big upset victory over then-No. 11 ranked Olivet Nazarene University (Ill.), 80-77, and Mayfield led the way shooting 5-for-10 from the field, including a trio of three-pointers, and scoring 19 points to help lead SXU. He also hit three of his four free-throw attempts in the game's final 16 seconds to secure the victory. He also finished with two rebounds, two assists and three steals.
It is the first time that Mayfield has earned the weekly honor in his one-season career with SXU. He becomes the fourth Cougar player to earn the conference recognition this season with junior forward Jake Listebarger (Harvard, Ill./McHenry County College/Richmond-Burton), senior guard Julian Scott (Country Club Hills, Ill./Hillcrest) and sophomore forward Dominique Harvey (Chicago, Ill./Homewood-Flossmoor) each claiming it once.
Saint Xavier (18-8 overall/6-2 CCAC) continues its CCAC schedule on Saturday, February 20, with a road game against Indiana University-South Bend (Ind.). The match-up is scheduled for a 1 p.m. (central) start in South Bend, Ind.
