Kansas City, Mo. - Led by head coach Myra Minuskin, the Saint Xavier University softball team learned that it would carry the No. 17 ranking into the 2010 season later this month when the NAIA released its 2010 NAIA Softball Preseason Ratings from its national office late Tuesday in Kansas City, Mo. Last season, the Cougars finished with a 32-19 overall mark, won the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) title, earned a final No. 24 national ranking and qualified for the NAIA Softball National Championships for the first time since 2004.
"I think this preseason ranking is well-deserved," said Minuskin. "We return a ton of experienced players from last season's national tournament team and this group knows what it takes to win at this level. We also have some key newcomers, who are eager to make their mark. Rankings are nice, but we still have to prove it on the field and we can't wait to get on the field later this month."
SXU opens its 2010 season at the Rebel Springs Games in Orlando, Fla., on Sunday, February 28, with a 9 a.m. (eastern) match-up against Clarke College (Iowa). It is the first of 13 games the Cougars will play during their annual week-long Florida trip to open the new season.Click here to see the entire 2010 NAIA Softball Preseason Rankings
